I recently visited Mama Ashanti at the Waterfront in Karen, and honestly, it was such a beautiful and refreshing experience. From the moment I walked in, I was drawn to the warm and welcoming Afrocentric decor. The combination of wooden furniture, African prints, and soft Afrobeat music created the perfect vibe. I chose to sit outside by the water, and the peaceful atmosphere instantly put me at ease. The service was warm and friendly. The staff welcomed me with a smile and were happy to walk me through the menu. Although the food took a little while to arrive—probably because it was a bit busy that day—it was definitely worth the wait. I ordered Jollof rice with grilled chicken, and it was bursting with flavor—smoky, spicy, and perfectly cooked. I also had a side of kelewele (spicy plantains), which were crispy, sweet, and had just the right kick. To top it off, I tried their Chapman cocktail—refreshing and slightly fruity, with a unique West African twist. It paired perfectly with the meal. One of my favorite things about Mama Ashanti was the vibe. It wasn’t just a restaurant—it felt like a cultural experience. The setting was ideal for a chill afternoon or even a romantic dinner. The prices were reasonable considering the quality and portion sizes, and I left feeling full and satisfied. If you're looking for authentic West African food in Nairobi, I’d definitely recommend Mama Ashanti at the Waterfront. It’s a perfect spot for food, vibes, and a little escape from the usual.
